Two lovers take their life, for they rather die than be without the other. The two lovers kept a secret marriage. The cause of the secret marriage simply is of a grudge. Montague and Capulet have held this grudge as long as anyone can remember. The grudge stormed the streets of Verona when Montague and Capulet met. They always broke into brawls when members of the households saw each other. Their hatred led to the death of a member from the Montague family and a member from the Capulet family. Romeo Montague was the first to take his life away. Then Juliet Capulet, as she was waking up saw Romeo dead; she decided to take her life away.
Romeo Montague: a quick-witted, romantic, male. Romeo is around the age of 17. Romeo was associated with Benvolio, Mercutio, Balthasar, and Tybalt. Benvolio thinks that Romeo can get any lady, Romeo lays his eyes upon. Mercutio thinks of Romeo as a little boy, who is weak and is not “man” enough to fight. To Tybalt, Romeo was a little a pest that got in the way. Romeo is enthusiastic. Romeo never gives up on something he wants. He is known to drown his broken heart in tears.
Juliet Montague: a beautiful, young 12 year-old girl. Juliet was associated with Nurse, Lady Capulet and Capulet. The Nurse thought of Juliet as a girl who was ambitious and never gave up. Capulet and Lady Capulet thought that Juliet was a rebellious girl that would ruin her life if she married Romeo. Capulet wanted Juliet to marry Paris, a man with many material possessions. Juliet did not want to marry Paris because her heart belonged to Romeo. Her rebellious actions caused her to take drastic measures. For example, drinking a potion to fake her death and thus being able to runaway with Romeo. Juliet was engaged to Paris (someone that could’ve provided for her), but chose to be with a young man that had no way to support her.
This is what Lord Montague had to say about the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet, “It is such a tragedy to lose a man of my son’s stature. I can’t believe that he would take such measures. I just… [crying] I just can’t believe it. I would have never thought he would take his life away for a girl he has only known for a few days. This is all Capulet’s daughter’s fault. What a goose! She poisoned his mind…” Lord Montague goes on about how much he wishes Romeo were here. Lord Capulet also had a few words to say. “My daughter is lost because of Romeo. She chose to runaway with the ‘love of her life’ and it got her dead. She chose to runaway with someone that will not be able to provide for her. Let this tragic death be a lesson for others.”
The deaths of these two “star-crossed” lovers were not ignored. The Prince exiled the two households for causing too much trouble in Verona streets. The Prince held Lady Capulet and the messenger on the donkey. The reason for blaming Lady Capulet is, she caused an emotional distress in Juliet's mind, which caused her to take drastic measures. The messenger boy was put on trial because he did not give Romeo the letter the friar wrote in time. This caused Romeo to know nothing of the plan between the friar and Juliet. Romeo took his own life because he thought Juliet had really died.
